Enki Bilal's The Nikopol Trilogy and Canales & Guarnido's Blacksad

Because I had read Persepolis the week before it was harder pick a title for this weeks entry. I looked at the list and dint recognize any of the names off the top of my head so I ended up downloading a few and looking through them to see what looked interesting.

The first one I took a real interest in was Enki Bilal's The Nikopol Trilogy.
I have to say what first attracted me to the series was the art. It looked interrelating with is mostly dark tone with slashes of color. It didn't look anything like Persepolis like I have the week before. It didn't even have close to the same kind of plot.

Honestly, I didn't really enjoy reading this one. I'm not sure what exactly turned me off to it but it just didn't sit well with me. I thought at first I might like it because of the mythology involved. Not so much. I found the plot to be confusing and aggravating and at first I liked the art style but after so many pages of it I didn't want to look at it any more. The movie we watched it class helped a bit with understanding what was happeneing but I still didn't like it.

The next series I looked at was Canales & Guarnido's Blacksad.
I surprise when I recognized this one. I had forgotten when someone had shown me a picture of this years ago recommending it whenever I got the chance. Obviously, I had forgotten about it and never bothered.

While I only had the copy provided in the web share, which wasn't in English (which is why I can't talk so much about the plot in this one), it was an enjoyable read anyway. The art was wonderfully detailed and provided enough information to know what was going on with the dialogue with was impressive by itself. I admit that the animal characterizations threw me off for a bit but even fore the serious and dark nature of the comic, it suited it rather well. I think the style of the art is really what pulled it all together. It made it so it wasn't odd at all for a cat to have a human's body.
